Inclement Weather Procedures

Dear QCSD Parents & Guardians:

Welcome back, Panthers! I hope you and your family had a restful Thanksgiving break. With winter weather in our forecast for tomorrow, I wanted to share our inclement-weather procedures with you:

Monitoring Weather Conditions
We actively track weather forecasts from the National Weather Service and other reliable sources throughout the day and night before a potential weather event.

Early Morning Review
Before school begins, district staff travel roads within our community to check conditions. We also consult with our transportation provider, neighboring school districts, and our Facilities Department to collect the most current information.

Decision Timeframe
A decision to delay or close school is typically made between 5:00 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. This allows families and staff adequate time to plan for the day.

Our decisions are guided strictly by safety. The ability to safely clear roads, sidewalks, and parking lots plays a major role in determining whether school can operate.

It is also important to note that our calendar already includes days for inclement weather. We do not keep schools open in unsafe conditions simply to avoid using a snow day.

Family Preparedness

We encourage all families to have a plan for:

  • A two-hour delay

  • An early dismissal

We also respect that parents/guardians may choose to keep their child home if they feel conditions in their area are unsafe. You know your child and your neighborhood best.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me at mfriedman@qcsd.org. We value your partnership and want to ensure you feel informed and supported. Thank you for your cooperation as we work to keep everyone in our school community safe.

Warm regards,

Dr. Matthew Friedman
