Third Grade Curriculum

Our entire curriculum is focused on the Standards and Benchmarks that have been established by the Quakertown Community School District. - Skills: Fact and Opinion, Cause and Effect, Decoding Strategies, Story Elements, Noting Details, Interpreting Details, Character Traits, Character Development, Categorizing, Symbolism, Drawing Conclusions, Compare and Contrast, Illustrator' Craft, Fantasy and Realism



- Types:Narrative, Informational, Persuasive, Letters, Biographies, Interviews, and Poetry



- Word Study: Short/Long Vowels, Word Patterns, Rules, Vocabulary, Suffixes, Homophones, and Application to reading and writing
Textbook Used: Spelling Connections by Zaner-Bloser

* Cursive Handwriting*

* Math


- Concepts:Addition and Subtraction of Whole Numbers, Linear Measures and Area, Multiplication and Division, Place Value in Whole Numbers and Decimals, Geometry, Fractions, Probability, and Problem Solving
**Students must memorize multiplication math facts 0-12 by the end of the school year**



* Social Studies

- Concepts: Rocks and Minerals, Plant Growth and Development, and Chemical Tests

- Concepts: Government and Economics
